The first self propelled motor car

(Nothng to do with modern cars)

The first self propelled motor vehicle had already been built by Nicolas Joseph Cugnot and Brenzin, as early as 1769. It was driven by a steam engine. A year later, a second unit of the car was built. It weighted about 8000 pounds could go up to 2 miles an hour. The vehicle was intended to be used for moving canons. The pic shows Cugnot's car crash against a wall in Paris.

The steam engine could not ,however, be adopted to run a vehicle on road due to the bad nature of roads and also because of the engine weight. But it eventuallly led to the development of trains that could run on perfectly smooth rails.

(more to come in next post)
